Growing your Instagram account can often be an overwhelming task. There’s so many different variables and methods to take into consideration…
However, once you break them down into separate tasks, it becomes much easier.
One of the best ways to grow your Instagram account is using proper #hashtags.
Hashtags can help you reach audience that you normally wouldn’t be able to reach. For individuals, looking for specific pages to find relevant content is a hard task, however, using hashtags makes it much easier to get the best results from multiple sources. That’s why you have to make a good use of this function. Instagram made it even easier with the newest update in 2018 – allowing users to follow specific hashtags. This makes specific niche hashtags much more effective and very useful.
Here’s some useful #hashtag hacks to boost your Instagram growth!
Something to note: Instagram allows up to 30 #hashtags per post, however, just recently it was discovered that spamming hashtags can be considered a spam. For best results, it’s suggested to use 8 to 12 most relevant hashtags per post.
Use General #Hashtags
You’ve probably seen #happy on a lot of different posts. It’s one of the most popular hashtags out there and for a good reason – it’s common, easy to find and relevant. You have a lot of options here, so feel free to explore!
Let’s say you post a picture of yourself on some tropical beach, you could use so many general, popular hashtags to get it out there. Something like this:
All of these hashtags are very popular and yet – very relevant to your post!
However, the problem with these hashtags is in the popularity itself. There’s way too many posts using these hashtags, so it’s hard to stand out. For this reason, it’s best to general hashtags in combination with a few less known hashtags. So…
Use Niche #Hashtags
The topic of niches is one of the most important ones in social media marketing. There are many benefits to finding a specific niche and thriving within it. And certain niches can be narrowed down to even smaller sub-niches. As an example:
Let’s say you use the general hashtag #fitness.
#fitness can be considered a niche, but it’s way too general. A niche within this field would be something like #yoga, which is considerable improvement as a hashtag. But, we can now go even lower! We can use different types of yoga as a hashtag, such as: #hathayoga, #vinsayayoga, #bikramyoga – now we’re talking.
This is the ultimate growth hack when it comes using hashtags. People will rarely follow #fitness as a whole, however, those interested in Vinsaya Yoga will certainly be following that hashtag. So if your page has a niche, or if your post is very specific, make sure you pay attention to niche #hashtags.
Use Trending #Hashtags
Using trending hashtags can be a very good way to get some quick, new following.
“But what do you mean by trending hashtags?!”
Trending #hashtags are something as simple as putting current year in front or behind of your word (like #yoga2018 for example). It’s also applicable to upcoming holidays like #christmas, #newyear, #thanksgiving.
All of these hashtags are trending at a certain time of the year. And a lot of people will use it, too. On top of that, you can also use popular hashtags from world events or politics, although this will usually not be applicable to many of your posts.
Specific Community / Group #Hashtags
Some communities and groups (you could say niches as well) have special and peculiar hashtags that are known only to them. However, in order to know these, you’re going to have to research that specific community. These hashtags are usually even smaller than niche ones, but they have enormous engagement rates because they’re so specific.
Let’s take… Vegans as an example.
Veganism is a very broad niche with a lot of different hashtags. However, specific communities have their own specific hashtags, such as:
#vegainsinsydney (specific city)
#veganrecipes (for cooks)
#vegangains (for gym rats looking to bulk up)
#veganathletes (for athletes specifically)
Vegan community is just one of these examples, every community – from photographers, athletes to fashion freaks have their own specific hashtags. It’s just about finding them.
Hashtags can be very powerful growth hack and it’s a must use for any serious Instagram influencer, business or brand in general. Make sure you put these growth hashtags to their best use and you will almost certainly find success!
Additionally, you can use these tools to help you out with finding the perfect hashtags for your Instagram profile.
Nobody wants to have their content vanish right before their audience’s eyes. If you’re posting, you want your posts to be seen, right? Well…
It all comes down to that pesky Instagram post algorithm.
It decides whether or not your posts get seen by your followers.
Back in 2016, Instagram announced some changes to their feed and they were really bad news for brands, influencers and marketers. Instagram’s feed used to be chronological, meaning that latest posts show first in the feed. Well, Instagram changed that to make sure that first posts are determined by “algorithm” which ensures only the most relevant posts get shown.
What does this mean for Influencers?
Influencers will have to adapt to this by changing the way they do things. There are certain methods and facts that are known to have a strong impact on the new post algorithm – and Influencers need to make sure they use it. If used correctly, it will make a HUGE difference in what kind of results does one achieve. And it’s also worth saying that “algorithms” are slowly becoming part of every platform. Therefore, understanding how they work will have huge impact even outside this platform.
With all that being said… Let’s take a look at couple of ways you can use Instagram post algorithm to your advantage:
Engagement is King
When it comes to algorithms, high engagement is all that matters.
The better your engagement rates, the more algorithm favors you. If someone or something has high engagement rates, it is naturally perceived as valuable and because of that it will be suggested to others. In order to successfully appear on that Instagram feed, you need to up your engagement rates in general, and from that person specifically.
This means that if someone likes, comments or responds to your stories – he cares about your posts and the algorithm will notice that. Make no mistake that every single post of yours will be shown to that person if he engages with you regularly. So, the only question is: “How do I improve my engagement rates!?”
Here are some ideas:
Use Instagram Stories
Instagram story gives you lots of options to make your followers engage with you. Some of those are asking questions, answering to polls or rating your story from 0 to 100. The only thing that matters is that you get that response. Whether it’s a poll answer, asked question, reply to your story or even a live stream comment – it counts as engagement!
Now, some forms of engagement may be rated higher than others, but we will never know that and Instagram surely won’t tell us. But the best way to make sure we succeed is to use every available resource.
Use Questions In Descriptions
You’re probably familiar with this method as it’s gotten quite old now. Almost every brand post will start off with a question targeted at the audience. It can be something as simple as “So, how was your day?”. Whatever it is, the point is – It works, so use it.
Using questions will lead to more comments on posts, which in return increase engagement rates. But, likes / comments / replies are only part of the whole scheme.
Timing Still Matters
Although new posts are no longer the top priority, they are still favored compared to the older ones.
There was another algorithm change in 2018 that made sure this is the case. There’s a really funny reason for this change – people were actually getting Christmas AFTER the New Year’s Eve. It was getting ridiculous.
When a post gets too old, the algorithm doesn’t care about it anymore.
So, your timing still matters and if you want your posts to be shown in your audience’s news feed – you have to post often and at the right time. (If you’re interested in knowing what’s the best time to post, feel free to check out that article)
Your Posts Can Reach New People Too
If you want to target completely new people who’ve never seen your page before – you can do that, too. And you don’t have to pay for advertisements.
Instagram’s feature “Recommended For You” does exactly this.
With this, your posts can appear in the feed of people who’ve never heard of you before. And the way it works is simple: Instagram algorithm takes this stranger’s most recent searches & interests and recommends new posts based on that input. So if somebody was searching for a lot of tennis content recently, he will suddenly have tennis related pages in his “recommended” block on feed.
How Can You Make Use Of This
The way you make use of this is by dedicating your Instagram page to a certain, specific niche. You do this by posting certain images and using certain keywords in your Bio and post descriptions (and hashtags too!). This will make it easy for algorithm to recognize it and recommended it to anyone who searches for similar content that you provide.
If your Instagram profile “stands” for something, it will get recommended to those who search for that. It’s seems way too simple but it works. This is just another reason why you should pick a specific niche in order to succeed.
Instagram algorithm is a tricky thing to understand, but it’s entirely possible to make use of it in the best way possible. By just following these methods, your posts should already see significant improvements when it comes to engagement / numbers.
Learn the rules, adapt – and make use of the system.
Did you just recently consider the idea of having more likes / followers?
Don’t worry, we all did. Everybody at some point wishes to have more followers on their page, our brains are simply wired that way. And this is a good thing, really. Having more followers is not bad in any way.
If you’re considering about BUYING fake followers or likes, you better think twice. Yes, there are some possibly profitable uses of buying fake likes or followers, however – the cons outnumber the pros by a wide margin. There are a few reasons why this is a bad idea, and it could potentially ruin your page. Let’s take a look at some of them:
1. It’s actually forbidden
Most platforms have some sort of rule against buying followers or even likes. If you’re buying followers, you’re technically breaking platform’s Terms of Service and you could potentially get banned because of it. Nobody wants to have their account suspended – and in the end your new followers would go to waste anyway. So that’s already one very important reason why not to take this move.
However, for all you rebels out there… here’s some more.
2. Lower Engagement Rate
Buying fake likes or followers will actually HURT your engagement score pretty badly. And nowadays, influencing is much more about engagement rate than numbers anyway. Lower engagement rates can be seen from a mile away. Did you ever see a 100k account with less than 10 comments? Yeah, that must’ve seemed pretty weird.
Engagement rate is a holy grail of influence marketing, and you should protect it at all costs. Instead of focusing on number of followers, try to organically build great following of people who LOVE your page. On top of that, your engagement rates will skyrocket.
3. It Hurts Your Credibility
A lot of pages have been exposed for buying fake likes or followers. And once the public found out about it, they were pretty pissed. And it’s quite obvious why the public gets pretty pissed about it – if you lie to your REAL followers with fake numbers, what does that say about you?
If you’re looking to create great, life-changing page for the world, you shouldn’t devalue it by buying fake likes or followers. Instead, focus on organic growth.
4. They Take Spam With Them
If you’ve ever bought fake followers, you know what I’m talking about. (don’t judge me, I’m not proud of those days..)
At start it looks all fine and dandy, you got a couple thousand of new followers and your page looks awesome. Until… they start spamming your posts and pictures with some foreign language words. You don’t even know what’s happening or why – until it hits you. These fake accounts are usually used to advertise some other products, and you REALLY don’t want additional trouble having to remove these comments every second. Spare yourself the trouble and don’t give them a chance to do so.
5. It Ruins Your Data
If you’re the type that likes to analyze data to fully use it to your advantage – this will make your life pretty hard. If you ever bought fake likes or followers, your data will be inflated with fake numbers all over the place, and you won’t be able to get rid of them.
Having proper data is a very important thing, it can tell you some game-changing things to transform your page. Don’t ruin that by buying fake numbers.
6. You’re Wasting Your Money and Your Time
The truth is, these fake numbers will not bring you any good in most of the cases. Yeah, they will make your page seem better – visually, but it doesn’t bring any benefits on it’s own. I know it seems hard in the beginning when you’re just starting out, however, if you just hang in there and focus on building your following by providing real value – you will be much more successful.
Don’t waste your precious money that could’ve been used in other ways – like improving your following the real, organic way. On top of that, you’re also using your time thinking, considering and worry about this when it could be used way more productively by just building your empire with blood and sweat.
7. Bottom Line: It’s Just Not Worth it
Yeah, there are some benefits. However, there are way too many negative things that come with it. If you’re looking for long-term benefit, this is a bad move. Wasting your time and money on fake followers / likes, which could also ruin your credibility and get you suspended at the same time – is just not worth it.
It’s a tough world out there and trying to get noticed in a sea of millions is not easy. However, it’s doable – and We can help you. You can find a lot of relevant material on our site that will help you succeed in this field, and it’s all completely FREE. Don’t waste your time or money any longer…
The big boys over at Instagram are finally pushing the “Verified” feature forward to a more mainstream appeal. In their latest press release, they’ve announced several new tools to “Help Keep Instagram Safe” and one of those is a Request Verification option inside the app.
Why is this important?
Well, for influencers who struggle with constantly having to deal with fake impersonations, this feature will finally bring some breathing room. If you get your account verified, users will know that your page is the only one they should trust. Verification is an important step to take if you’re looking to build a popular brand or name for yourself. On top of that, the “blue check mark” just looks kinda cool to have. It makes your page more legit.
Who Can Get Verified?
We all know there’s always a whole lot confusion when it comes to these things. Some manage to get verified, others don’t – the process usually makes no sense. Well, here’s what Instagram had to say about it:
“… the blue verified badge is an important way for you to know that the account you are interacting with is the authentic presence of a notable public figure, celebrity, global brand or entity.”
Well, at least that tells us something. So if you think you belong to one of these labels, you should definitely request your verification right now. The “notable public figure” part sounds very promising to aspiring Instagram influencers. One thing is for sure, every influencer will want to have this on their profile.
Additionally, they say that the account has to be:
Authentic (Must represent a real person, registered business or entity
Unique (Only one account is allowed per business / person)
Complete (It has to be public, with profile bio, profile photo and at least one post, oh and – it can’t contain “add me” links to other social media services)
Notable (Well known, highly searched for person, brand or entity)
Does that sound like you? If so, go ahead and request that verification ASAP!
How to Get Verified?
They made the Verification process fairly easy – all you have to do is go to the app, hit that Menu button, go to “Settings” and you will have option to “Request Verification.”
They demand you to provide them with your ID document in order to get verified.
So there we go, it’s a fairly easy process and definitely a step in the right direction for Instagram. Instagram Influencers should be pretty happy about this change. Besides making your life a lot easier, it’ll also add that extra bit of “coolness” to your profile page.
We all know Instagram is super competitive, highly-populated platform and in order to succeed in this environment – you have to use EVERY single thing to your advantage. And we also know that there are TONS of those “single” things that can be used. Well, one of those things is:
Posting on specific time.
You probably had these weird moments where some of your posts just DOUBLE in engagement. I know I did. And let me tell you, it happens for a reason. You probably hit the perfect time frame to do that. So, let’s figure out how to do that EVERY single time!
One thing to note – best time to post will depend on a few things.
The Usual Best Time To Post
Okay, let’s first talk about what will apply to most people. Many of you may think that the best time to post would be Sunday – however, this is wrong. Although you may think everyone is just home, chilling and enjoying their free time on social media, but in reality, most people are off on the road or doing something entirely different. Let’s take a look at this image from sproutsocial on the topic of Instagram engagement:
As you can see here, Sunday is the worst day when it comes to engagements. And surprisingly, the best days are in middle of the week. Wednesday/Thursday/Friday work the best for many reasons. Compared to Monday/Tuesday, they are not as intense when it comes to work, so people have more time to spend browsing Instagram. And compared to weekends, people are using their phones more often since they’re most likely not off to some great adventure.
Now when it comes to TIME, as in when during the 24 hours – you can also see some interesting patterns there. The highest engagement usually happens really early in the morning, from 5 AM to 6 AM and in middle of the day – 4 PM to 5 PM.
Early mornings work well because most of people check Instagram upon waking up and middle of the day is usually the time just after coming home from work.
However, all this is way too general and you shouldn’t look much into it.
So what should you do instead?
Know Your Audience
This is the most precious piece of information you can have when it comes to your boosting your Instagram engagement rate. Let’s take a look at 2 situations as an example. So, let’s say you want to post an image related to partying, having fun, festivals. You do the following:
You post the image at 6 AM
You post the image at 8 PM
Which one do you think will have more engagement?
– Well of course the second one!
People don’t want to read about parties and festivals at 6 AM. (Thanks Captain Obvious!) However, at 8 PM it’s a whole ‘nother story. This is why it’s very important to know your target audience, the working-class will be more effective during non work times and your “productivity page” will probably be the most effective at night, lol.
The point is, if you get inside the heads of your audience, you will know the what’s, how’s, why’s and when’s of how their life. This means you will find out when it’s the best time to post your photo / video. And this is the reason I said you shouldn’t look too much into the graph. Because it will depend based on your profile, audience and their behavior.
However, with information that you’ve learned from this reading, you should have more than enough insight to figure out when is the best time for YOU to post.
When it comes to Instagram, it’s all about that visual appeal.
You may have noticed that certain pages immediately caught your attention – simply because they were very compelling on first look. Usually, these pages will use a certain style for all of their photos, making them stand out from other pages who mix it up. This could mean anything from really bright to darker “themes” that make their page really awesome and unique once opened. This is a very powerful method to improve your Instagram page and you should definitely use it to your advantage.
One of the ways to achieve this is by using built-in Instagram filters.
Let’s take a look at few filters with unique styles that will make your Instagram feed look amazing and visually irresistible!
Valencia filter adds some brighter, yellow / pink-ish contrast to the picture, making it seem more vintage and lighter. Valencia brings you back to those “childhood” days with it’s unique tint. It’s also a very versatile filter that can be used with almost anything. If you want your pictures to seem like a memory book from the good old days.
It’s a good idea to use it with nature / environment photographs so you can highlight those natural, light colors, although you could also use it with food items for example.
X Pro II
X Pro II is one of those darker themed filters that adds a lot of darker highlight and makes pictures really stand out. It focuses on the center of the photo and creates a shadow around it – highlighting it even further. This filter will add dark pink / purple-ish effect to your photos and really make them stand out. X Pro makes your pictures look lively and optimistic and it’s best used to highlight exactly those emotions.
It’s best used to highlight certain elements in very bright backgrounds. Pictures of nature, city skylines or any objects that you want to highlight in a dull environment.
If you’re a fan of Black & White photography, you’re gonna love this one. Instagram has a few b&w filters, but Willow is by far the most natural looking. It doesn’t have any weird focus and sharpening issues, it just takes your pictures and turns it to black & white. What makes it so great is the fact that it’s very soft and doesn’t ruin the picture whatsoever. It can turn almost any picture into something unique and appealing.
Black & White is a style that can be really amazing when you correctly pull it off and many pages certainly make good use of it. It can also make some bad selfies & pictures look pretty great with a single touch. It’s best used for lower quality photos – like selfies and close up (macro) pictures of objects or close quarter streets.
Mayfair is one of those “can’t go wrong” filters when it comes to Instagram. It’s often used as a safe choice when there are no good fits – and for a good reason really. Mayfair is a great filter that adds warmer colors to your picture, while also highlighting the center area.
It’ll be a great addition to any image with bright background, especially if you want to highlight a certain element with it. It’ll add warmer, slightly pink-ish colors that lighten up the mood and make your picture stand out with certain liveliness and joy.
Much like Valencia, Earlybird gives your pictures that vintage look with lots of shadows while still keeping those original colors. It’s a lot more subtle and “older” than valencia and it radiates with that unique hipster-like energy. Definitely a great choice for if you’re looking to build that sort of vintage / hipster style on your page.
It’s great for throwback photos and selfies, but it can also be used with natural photos like this one as it really makes that natural color blend in with the shadows to give it that cool, old school loook.
Kelvin is one of the most used filters in the fashion niche – and it’s easy to see why. Kelvin adds that bright red color to photos that really make it shine and stand out. It’s a great use to capture attention with flashy and attractive colors. Although it may seem a little too aggressive to some, it can achieve amazing results when used properly.
So, if you’re looking for that flashy, bright red look – definitely give Kelvin filter a shot!
All of these filters add a unique effect to pictures that can make your page really stand out from the competition. If you’re able to find a perfect filter for your niche, it will transform your page into something awesome. These filters are definitely among the best ones available but if you still don’t think they will fit you, I’ve got some good news – Instagram has plenty of other choices for you.
